The small town of Duplessis, Louisiana is located in Ascension Parish. The population of the town is just over 1,000 people. The town was founded in 1892 by Joseph Dupre, and was originally called Dupreville. The town was renamed Duplessis in honor of Governor Maurice du Pont du Plesis de Richelieu.
